Defiler's CGS Round 5 and 6 Predictions

Tony 'Defiler' G • Sun 09 of Sep, 2007 [14:12 UTC]

Winners Bracket Round 5

Imminent vs NewType

The final two undefeated teams of the competition going at it in what is going to be just as thrilling and exciting as the match we saw between Imminent and SQL. This match is going to be a battle of momentum, both teams are very evenly matched in all departments and getting momentum is vital for both teams. Imminent are coming of a very intense game against SQL, which they looked dead and buried been down 9 – 6 as Terrorists on Inferno, but they showed that they should never be counted out and that they have nothing but heard, coming back to the win the match in OT.
NewType on the other hand are coming off an impressive performance against Team Fury, losing only the one round as CT they looked as sharp as I have ever seen them, expect them to be well prepared for this up coming match

The map:
The map for the match is Nuke, fortunately for us we have seen that both these teams are well prepared for this map, Imminent beating ZR 10 – 4 and NewType beating Farmerz 10 – 5. You can be sure to see lots of aggressive plays from both teams, they both play a very similar style of game, quick fakes with hard rushes as T’s, and a very in your face approach as CT’s. You can be sure that a lot of action will take place close to Annex as it will be seen as a vital point of the map for the match, which ever team can successfully hold annex will most likely win this match.

Players to watch:
Topgun: What is to be said about this guy that hasn’t been said already? He is a machine, his 4 down 2 vs 1 clutch against SQL at 9 – 6 was the turning point of the match then, he single handedly shifted the momentum in the match. He is a match winner and will undoubtedly be on top form for this match.
Supertech: Once again I’m going for supertech, I mentioned his name for the last round matches as a player to watch, and was criticised by a few players who said it’s his worst map, he even sent me a message saying it was his worst map, and yet, he topped the stats, can’t wait to watch him on a map he is good at! He is a brilliant player who, like topgun, wins matches for his team and will most likely be the main point of offence by his team.

Result:
This is going to be a really close match which could easily go either way, once again, don’t be surprised to see over time in this match, in actual fact, you can almost pencil in over-time as it will be hard to split the difference between these two teams. I’m going to go with what some will call an upset for this game, NewType are going to be pumped for this match and I think they have what it takes to get over the line.
Imminent 8 – 10 NewType

Losers Bracket Round 6

Team Fury vs Ichor

WOW, I can’t wait for this match, it’s going to be one hell of a good fight, Fury coming off a loss against NewType will be looking to get back to winning ways in this match, they will no doubt be fired up for this one, they will be coming into this match fairly high in confidence, although losing their last match, they showed they can take it to the best of them. Ichor on the other hand are coming into this match with nothing but momentum, two very close wins against Halcyon and Advantage, both going into over-time and one well fought match against Corsairs have got the confidence in the Ichor camp running high, they will have a nothing to lose attitude coming into this match which will definitely help them stay relaxed throughout.

The map:
Like the winners bracket, the map is Nuke, I believe for Fury this is a good thing, Nuke is a very team based map, and the fact that Ichor are virtually a slut team will give Fury the advantage on the team work front, however, Ichor have been practicing hard all tournament and will no doubt come into this match with some strong strats of their own. Both teams have already played this map once before in the competition, Ichor beat Halcyon 10 – 9 in what was an extremely intense match, and Fury had a hard fought win against SyncGaming, 10 – 7.

Players to watch:
D1gz: d1gz is an extremely important player for the Ichor team, he is a lead by example type of player, when he plays well, the whole Ichor team seems to step up that little bit more. You can be sure d1gz will shape this match one way or the other.
Padz: I sound like a broken record, but padz is extraordinarily good, even when he has no back up and no help, padz still manages to single handedly win rounds and matches for his team, Ichor better work out how to stop this guy or they will be in trouble.

Result:
Just like every match at this point of the competition, this will be extremely intense for both teams, and also very very close. With that said I think that Ichor will have the experience to over come Fury and hand them their second successive loss in CGS.
Team Fury 7 – 10 Ichor

Sequential Gaming vs Evolution Australia

The battle of the two clans who have had to shape their rosters because of age restrictions, SQL seemed to have immediately clicked with their new players, coming agonisingly close to finally beating Imminent they just couldn’t get over the line, but did show their team work is second to none. Evo have had a couple of mixed results, destroying Xtrip, getting destroyed by NewType and then a very close win against Redux have shown that you never know what you’re going to get from them. You can be sure that they will come in full of confidence and pumped up for this fight.

The map:
Like the other two matches, it is also Nuke, although we have seen both teams play on nuke, we don’t know exactly what we are going to get, Evo weren’t tested in their match on Nuke comfortably defeating ignite, where as SQL beat derive in what was a close match, the team hadn’t played together long and their team work wasn’t quite up to scratch. This match is going to be very different; it’s going to be one hell of a dog fight, the “randomness” of Evo vs the well drilled SQL, its going to be interesting to see what reigns supreme. You can be sure Evo will throw in many “random” pushes to try and put SQL off their strats, SQL will have to be prepared for this because if Evo throw in early pushes and they work then SQL will no doubt be slightly shell shocked for the rest of the match.

Players to watch:
Ozi: Ozi is a real leader, he can win matches purely by been there, his ability to take control of matches is what makes him valuable, be sure that he will be on fire for this one.
Makaze: Makaze is a fragger, and he frags well, he pulls off many shots that no one in Australia can dream of making, this makes him a formidable opponent for anyone to face

Result:
As I said before, this match is going to turn into a bit of a dog fight, and it will come down to which team can handle their oppositions style of play. I’ll say team work will win this match for SQL as they will be ready for any “random” push Evo throw at them.
Sequential Gaming 10 – 7 Evolution Australia
