With season 5 of CEVO coming to an end, round 6 could not be more important for every team and what a fitting map to play on, Inferno, one of the all time favourites for all Counter Strike players. Immunity will be looking to all but secure top spot this week; a win will virtually guarantee that. Sublime and Morals are fighting for the rights to second spot, however Morals have to keep an eye on their tail as eXile5, CintX-FIRE and Frenetic Array could potentially leapfrog them with a couple of good results. Qlimax and Fighting for Freedom are playing for pride, and on a map such as Inferno, they could well cause an upset to any team this week.

CintX-FIRE vs Morals
CintX-FIRE
Position: 6th
Lineup: geronimo, tek, mrt, [G]angst[A], Snow, KermiT and willeh

Morals
Position: 3rd
Lineup: Boomser, rBKE, apoc, Havoc, Racs and Topgun

Match Preview
On paper, this match heavily favours Morals, but CintX’s teamwork and organization will put everything Morals have to the test. At the moment Morals look to be an unstoppable unit, in the last three weeks, they have been sharp and organized, their aim and individual experience getting them through their matches rather comfortably and has put them back in contention to win the competition. CintX-FIRE on the other hand, have been quite the opposite, starting the season in fine fashion, but the last three weeks have been some what of a struggle, they will be well prepared for this match against Morals as it is a must win for them.

What to expect
Morals will no doubt be looking to play their typical quick style of gaming, expect to see them pushing in quick, and together, they wont waste time messing around the map and will attempt to cause as much “havoc” to CintX as possible.
CintX will be very different, they will be slow, calculated, and organized, expect them to methodically attempt to dissect the Morals defense, while throwing in a couple of curve balls with quick rounds.

Player’s perspective
[C]intX-FIRE Geronimo – Morals are going to be one of our toughest assignments yet, so we know that we have to play well and hit shots to even have a chance against them. If we can get our teamwork and communication down i think we might have a shot of knocking down the big boys. But like i said it will be toughest going up against the best caller/leader in the world in boomser
Moral[s] Boomser – Hopefully should be a good match if both teams practise for it , i think cintx need to have a win to confirm top4 as their next two matches are vs us and iM.

Prediction Morals 16 – 13 CintX
With what’s at stake, I believe that Morals will have the experience to take this match out, each and every round will be close and could go either way, but Morals should scrape through with another win.

Sublime vs eXile5
Sublime
Position: 2nd
Lineup: Shadzke, SnypeR, ox1, KiLLeR, PaDz and Swordfish

eXile5
Position: 4th
Lineup: trick, DreaD, bzy_, subberz, dash and markus

Match Preview
For me, this is match of the round, just look at whats at stake for these two, Sublime are looking to consolidate their spot in the top 2, while clinging on to the small hope that Immunity will slip up and eXile5 are fighting tooth and nail to hold onto that all important 4th spot. So far you cannot fault Sublime this season, yes they lost their last match to a better Immunity team on the day, but they have been phenomenal prior to that, and will be looking to get their momentum back with a win over eXile5 who have had somewhat of a roller coaster season thus far, two consecutive wins, followed by an unlucky loss against Morals last week will see eXile5 come out with something to prove and to regain momentum. The recent addition of Marcus to the team has looked to be a fantastic one as he has slotted in beautifully to replace requiem.

What to expect
Sublime will take this as if it were any other game, they will be very well prepared, a combination of great aim, great strats and very well rehearsed rushes will attempt to leave eXile5 wondering what hit them.
eXile5 have a much more free flowing type of game, and will be very aggressive, expect to see them right in the faces of Sublime in both halves.

Player’s perspective
sublime shadzke – I believe we will be prepared for this match; we’ve stepped it up in regards to training and should hopefully get the outcome we want this Sunday. We also have Gencon this Saturday in Brisbane, which is a great opportunity for us as a team to play together. In saying all that I’ve played with a lot, if not all, of the exile5 boys and I know that this won’t be an easy match as they’re all very strong and capable players. But at the end of the day we hope we will be able to overcome this and bring out a win.
x5 DreaD – We are very keen to play sublime, and are going into the match ready to PuMP TooFs. With requieM recently leaving the team, we have picked up none other then markus[bb] and have started scrimming as much as we can. Come game day, we will be prepared as ever ;] (Watch mark to fire up, kids a machine) GLHF!

Prediction Sublime 16 – 14 eXile5
As much as I would love to predict an upset for eXile5, common sense has to put the ball in Sublime’s court, their ability to with stand all sorts of pressure will see them cross the line victorious.

Team Immunity vs Fighting for Freedom
Team Immunity
Position: 1st
Lineup: Spunj, Dewshu, Emagine, Stv, digz and Deathdog

Fighting for Freedom
Position: 8th
Lineup: grimn, soulJah, kstrife, Mickos, Meki, bH, Ordinary, Tegs, dripskii, MarciveR

Match Preview
As much as Fighting for Freedom are a personal favourite, this match is a complete dead rubber, no upset, no twists, nothing, and although individually F4F have some very good players in their team, without any practice, chemistry or teamwork, they wont be able to penetrate the defense of a hot Immunity lineup.

What to expect
It will be business as normal for Immunity, they will be looking to win as many rounds as possible, and will have no mercy for the freedom fighters.
Fighting for Freedom could bring anything to this match, there’s no predicting what to expect as I’m sure they don’t even know what lineup is coming to the match yet.

Player’s perspective
F4F dannygrimn – mate, i haven’t even spoken to anyone from the team
iM emagine – We’re feeling pretty confident at the moment. In saying that, f4f aren’t to be underestimated, but I think our practice should pay off. Everyone seems pretty keen for inferno!

Prediction Immunity 16 – 5 Fighting for Freedom
Expect a little bit of a blood bath in this one, Immunity will over power F4F regardless of what team they start.

Qlimax vs Frenetic Array
Qlimax
Position: 7th
Lineup: fryiee, Lock, tnk, Element, commy, vello

Frenetic Array
Position: 6th
Lineup: ouCH, siBe, Contaminated, DimoJr, icex and pjf

Match Preview
This match has the makings to be a true great. Not only is it a replay of a CyberGamer match which was won by Frenetic Array in over time, but with four straight losses at the start of the season, Qlimax will have a new found belief in themselves that they belong in CEVO – P due to a win finally under their belt there is no doubt Qlimax will be coming into this match with the expectations of a win over Frenetic Array who have had a roller coaster ride this season, after what many saw as an upset win in their first match, they have struggled to back that up until last week when a win got them back on track for a finals berth and momentum swinging back their way.

What to expect
There is an very obvious game plan when it comes to Qlimax, and that’s teamwork, they know individually that they are not quite as good as most other teams in the competition, but as a unit, they can be a handful. Expect to see them try confuse and out smart the Frenetic Array team with some nice strats.
Frenetic Array are all about the aim, there is no doubt about it, they are one of the sharpest teams in the competition, and with good chemistry between the team they will be looking to out pick and out play Qlimax.

Player’s perspective
qlimax fryiee – I expect us to rock up and frag like last week!
Fray siBE – Yeh I’d say we are going to be pretty prepared for qlimax this Sunday, after versing them on inferno in cybergamer and winning in overtime we definitely aren’t going to head into the match over zealous. With our new recruit PHILLIPJFRY is should bring a new aspect to our game and make things very interesting

Prediction Qlimax 16 – 12 Frenetic Array
That’s right, an upset here, Qlimax have a very strong Inferno hold, and some good strats, that with the confidence gained from their recent win, and the close match in CyberGamer gives them the advantage over Frenetic Array.

A special thanks to fryiee, sibe, dannygrimn, emagine, dread, shadzke, Geronimo and boomser for their special comments!

We are quickly coming to the end of season 5 for CEVO Professional, and it has been an absolute cracker thus far, with a lot of outstanding, close matches, and even a couple of upsets, CEVO – P could still go to anyone. Unsurprisingly however is Immunity leading the pack, without a loss to their name so far, they are backing up their nationals form in impressive fashion, and are without a doubt the team to beat. With that said, Sublime and Morals are hot on their tail, and will give them a run for their money all the way to the finals.

The middle of the table looks just as, if not more impressive, eXile5, Frenetic Array and CintX-FIRE all on 2 wins, 3 losses, with 4th spot completely up for grabs. CintX-FIRE have the hardest run of the three teams, having to face both Immunity and Morals, while Frenetic Array and eXile5 have QLIMAX and Fighting for Freedom respectively and both have Sublime to play.

Bringing up the rear is QLIMAX and Fighting for Freedom, both have only one win to their name so far. With that said, QLIMAX have definitely proven that they deserve their spot in this seasons CEVO-P, they showed this in their two opening games losing to Sublime and CintX-Fire 16 – 14 and 16 – 13, respectively. Fighting for Freedom on the other hand looked like a real dark horse at the beginning of the season, a solid lineup, mixed with aim and experience, they were firing on all cylinders prior to CEVO-P, unfortunately for them, with a few players becoming inactive and leaving the team, they have quickly become inactive and are paying the price.

Immunity
Lineup
Spunj, Dewshu, Emagine, Stv, digz and Deathdog
Results
Round 1 vs Morals Tuscan 16-12 Win
Round 2 vs eXile5 Dust2 16-2 Win
Round 3 vs Qlimax Nuke 16-9 Win
Round 4 vs Fray Inferno 16-10 Win
Round 5 vs Sublime Season 16-7 Win

Still To Play:
Round 6 vs F4F Inferno
Round 7 vs CintX Train

So far for Immunity it has been business as normal, with a solid win in the opening game of the season against the all star team of Morals on Tuscan, they backed that up with a devastating win over eXile5 on Dust2 and since have continued their fine form right through the competition so far.
With F4F and CintX left to play, it should be a comfortable ride to the finals for Immunity, once there, they will face their biggest challenge and have to prove they are the best, anything less then coming out winners of CEVO-P Season 5 will be classified as a failure in the eyes of every Immunity player.

Sublime
Lineup
Shadzke, SnypeR, ox1, KiLLeR, PaDz and Swordfish
Results
Round 1 vs Qlimax Tuscan 16-14 Win
Round 2 vs Morals Dust2 16-5 Win
Round 3 vs F4F Nuke 16-5 Win
Round 4 vs CintX Season 16-13 Win
Round 5 vs iM Season 7-16 Loss

Still To Play:
Round 6 vs eXile5 Inferno
Round 7 vs Fray Train

With a new look roster, Sublime started off the season a bit slow, with a 16 – 14 win against a weaker Qlimax team, it looked as though it could be a long season for Sublime, but they proved they are here to challenge all of their competitors with a thumping win over Morals in round 2. Their form continued with 2 more solid victories over F4F and CintX-FIRE. Unfortunately, the dream run for Sublime ended at the hands of Immunity in round 5, having to field their manager Swordfish, on a map that they were unprepared for, they got out aimed, out strated, and plain and simply, out played.
Two very hard games coming up for Sublime, having to face eXile5 and Fray who are battling ever so hard to take that 4th spot, they will have everything thrown at them, including the kitchen sink, the question is, has the loss to Immunity dented their confidence? or can they bounce back from that defeat and gain momentum into the finals?

Morals
Lineup
Boomser, rBKE, apoc, Havoc, Racs and Topgun
Results
Round 1 vs iM Tuscan 12-16 Loss
Round 2 vs Sublime Dust2 5-16 Loss
Round 3 vs Fray Nuke 16-10 Win
Round 4 vs F4F Dust2 16-4 Win
Round 5 vs eXile5 Season 16-14 Win

Still To Play:
Round 6 vs CintX Inferno
Round 7 vs Qlimax Train

Many said that this team would walk through CEVO-P this year, unfortunately after the first two rounds, those people became very quiet and the naysayers came out. Losing to Immunity and Sublime meant Morals needed to lift for the rest of the competition, and lift they did. Comfortably beating Frenetic Array, Destroying F4F and then scraping past eXile5, it seems as though Morals have found their top gear. With CintX-FIRE and Qlimax left to play, anything but two wins will be disappointing for Morals, they need to consolidate that 3rd spot and possibly scrape into second if Sublime slip up.

eXile5
Lineup
trick, DreaD, bzy_, subberz, dash and markus
Results
Round 1 vs Fray Tuscan 8-16 Loss
Round 2 vs iM Dust2 2-16 Loss
Round 3 vs CintX Nuke 16-6 Win
Round 4 vs Qlimax Dust2 16-3 Win
Round 5 vs Morals Season 14-16 Loss

Still To Play:
Round 6 vs Sublime Inferno
Round 7 vs F4F Train

In what many saw as a huge upset, eXile5 started their campaign with a big loss to Frenetic Array, followed by a slaughtering at the hands of Immunity. Since then however, eXile5 have gone from first to fifth gear. Two convincing wins over CintX-FIRE and Qlimax saw them jump into the top four. Unfortunately in a match that could have given them third spot, they narrowly lost to Morals on Season, a devastating one as it looked like they had the match won, but a great fight back on Morals behalf has dropped eXile5 back into the danger zone.
With just sublime and F4F left to play, eXile5 need two wins, fortunately for them, Frenetic Aray and CintX-FIRE both have hard games ahead of them aswell.

Frenetic Array
Lineup
ouCH, siBe, Contaminated, DimoJr, icex and pjf
Results
Round 1 vs eXile5 Tuscan 16-8 Win
Round 2 vs F4F Dust2 7-16 Loss
Round 3 vs Morals Nuke 10-16 Loss
Round 4 vs iM Inferno 10-16 Loss
Round 5 vs CintX Season 16-13 Win

Still To Play:
Round 6 vs Qlimax Inferno
Round 7 vs Sublime Train

Frenetic Array talked themselves up at the beginning of the season, and in game 1, they backed it up, a comfortable win over eXile5 shut the mouths of a lot of doubters, since then however it was a bit of a struggle for Frenetic Array, losing to the Morals, Immunity and the struggling F4F had left them struggling near the bottom, however a good win over CintX-FIRE has pushed them right back into contention for fourth spot, and with Qlimax and Sublime still to play, they have every chance of pinching that spot.

CintX-FIRE
Lineup
geronimo, tek, mrt, [G]angst[A], Snow, KermiT and willeh
Results
Round 1 vs F4F Tuscan 16-8 Win
Round 2 vs Qlimax Dust2 16-13 Win
Round 3 vs eXile5 Nuke 6-16 Loss
Round 4 vs Sublime Season 13-16 Loss
Round 5 vs Fray Season 13-16 Loss

Still To Play:
Round 6 vs Morals Inferno
Round 7 vs iM Train

CintX-FIRE started the season brilliantly, two good wins over F4F and Qlimax had some people wondering if they where going to be a real threat to the other teams, unfortunately, they have not been able to back up the first two rounds, a big loss against eXile5 dented the confidence of CintX-Fire, who lost two games in shattering circumstances, both 16 – 13, leaving CintX-FIRE in that battle for the 4th spot. It seems as though everything is against CintX-FIRE at the moment, having to face Morals and Immunity, nothing short of a miracle, and a hell of a lot of passion will get them out of this jam.

QLIMAX
Lineup
fryiee, Lock, tnk, Element, commy, vello
Results
Round 1 vs Sublime Tuscan 14-16 Loss
Round 2 vs CintX Dust2 13-16 Loss
Round 3 vs iM Nuke 9-16 Loss
Round 4 vs eXile5 Dust2 3-16 Loss
Round 5 vs F4F Season 16-11 Win

Still To Play:
Round 6 vs Fray Inferno
Round 7 vs Morals Train

As was mentioned earlier, Qlimax opened their CEVO-P campaign in great form, yes they lost their two games, but they were both very close against two very good opponents, since then, they have not been able to get much right, losing to Immunity and then getting demolished by eXile5 was sure to dent the spirits of Qlimax. But they showed true heart and character, coming back, preparing themselves, and beating a struggling F4F team. Have Qlimax built enough moment to have a late surge? Two very tough games would make most people say no, but momentum is a wonderful thing, and if they can get past Frenetic Array, you can be sure they’ll give Morals a run for their money.

Fighting 4 Freedom
Lineup
grimn, soulJah, kstrife, Mickos, Meki, bH, Ordinary, Tegs, dripskii, MarciveR
Results
Round 1 vs CintX Tuscan 8-16 Loss
Round 2 vs Fray Dust2 16-7 Win
Round 3 vs Sublime Nuke 5-16 Loss
Round 4 vs Morals Dust2 4-16 Loss
Round 5 vs Qlimax Season 11-16 Loss

Still To Play:
Round 6 vs iM Inferno
Round 7 vs eXile5 Train

The amount of players signed up to the team shows exactly whats happened to Fighting for Freedom, originally starting with the team of grimn, souljah, mickos, meki, kstrife and bH as reserve, they were active, practicing and committed to giving CEVO a red hot go. After losing against CintX-FIRE in the opening game, they came back and comfortably defeated Frenetic Array, it looked as though business was back to normal for the Fighting for Freedom boys, however it just wasn’t meant to be. With Mickos going inactive, then grimn following suit, the team has since picked up whoever they can get, and although on paper they still have some very good players, without a constant core team, and without constant practice they quickly dropped to the bottom of of the ladder. With Immunity and eXile5 left to play, one cannot see them getting another result out of CEVO.

Since CS Source was released, we have seen many different “companies” running servers and competitions, without them, source would simply be a game that a bunch of randoms would get together in a server and play, not having an aim to improve for any reason.

The following article will talk about the different server/competition companies that have come through Australia, and what impact they’ve had.

GameArena
Really, the begging of Source competitions in Australia, running a very simple ladder which hosted more than 200 teams, not sure where they came from to be honest, but the GamerArena ladder was the only way Source players could compete for something.

GameSpace
As much as I personally enjoyed playing in the GameSpace ladder and league, this was more of a fun ladder for teams to go and have a war where they could enjoy themselves, the “big teams” of Australian Source didn’t really compete in GameSpace, giving the teams with less experience a chance to win something.

AUSource
This was a community IRC Channel who hosted a community website, started in 2006; AUSource quickly rose to become Australia’s #1 place to talk all things Source related, find scrims, find sluts and much more. The beauty of AUSource was that it bought together every single player in Australia to a mutual place having nothing before that for the community to grow; it really started a trend in Australian Source. However, with the emergence of OGN and soon after GotGames, AUSource was quickly over run by the superiority of these other two emerging companies.

Although AUSource started to run a ladder, there was a lack of commitment within the competitions administrators to see it through, this lead to the ladder not going ahead, and the eventual demise of AUSource

Oceanic Gaming Network (OGN)
Another company no longer with us, OGN hosted many public servers and also many different competitions. During OGN’s reign at the top of Australian Gaming, they ran numerous 32 team Defend Your Server Competitions, where the best teams across Australia would compete for their chance to win a server until the next competition.

With servers tried, and software tested, OGN moved on to run an Invite competition, the competition was absolutely fantastic… for 4 weeks, unfortunately, someone decided to ruin everyone’s fun and DDOS’d the OGN network, killing the software, to the fault of OGN swell, they did not have any backups, and lost everything. This was to be the end of OGN on a competitive level, they continued to run public servers for years to come, but finally it seems they have closed their doors.

Anything Interactive
Well, here’s a company who had Australian Source in the palm of their hands, they had unlimited support from every single member of the Australian Source community and the backing of some major companies, unfortunately for Anything Interactive their demise was none other than a fault of their own, trying to run a competition not within their means.

In 2007 Anything Interactive exploded into the Source scene, running a national competition at VA LAN Cafe in Melbourne, with qualifiers all around Australia the competition shaped up to be a real break through in Australian Source. 2008 proved to be the high point for Anything Interactive, running Gamerthon at ACMI in federation square, Anything Interactive ran competitions for FIFA, Gran Tourismo, Halo3, Guitar Hero, DOA, CS 1.6 and of course CS Source in an unheard of week of competitive gaming.

But of course, with ups, comes down, in 2009, Anything Interactive shot themselves in the foot, attempting to run another Nationals competition with no venue confirmed, no money in the bank, and no time to work on it, Anything Interactive failed miserably in what proved to be the end of the company. The end of Anything Interactive left an understandable bitter taste in the mouth of many Source players.

World Game Masters Tournament (WGT)
How they got WGT out of World Game Masters Tournament is beyond me, but with that said, the fact remains that the WGT has run 2 very successful Source LAN competitions in Sydney. With a free online qualifier and not only flying the qualifying teams to finals, but fronting their competitions, that alone would make any source player happy, but with the best gaming equipment, and a fantastic setup, add in some gorgeous promo girls, and you got yourself a wonderful weekend!

CyberGamer
I’m sure if you ask any CyberGamer admin, they are looking to be the future of not only Australian Source but Australian Gaming. They are currently running an Invite competition which includes some of Australia’s top teams. Unfortunately for them, they are in a head on battle with the GotGames CEVO season, a challenge that right now, they cannot win. Many teams are turning up to their matches unprepared, or undermanned, not caring if they win or lose. With that said, I believe CyberGamer is just what Australian Source needs, some healthy competition for GotGames, fighting to better themselves and get the one up on their competitor.

GotGames
FINALLY I get to GotGames, where do I start? Right now, GotGames IS Australian Source, there is not one competitive Source player who doesn’t use their forum for discussions or at the very least, know about their forum. Why is GotGames so successful you say? It’s simple really, GotGames was able to stand the test of time, running competitions continuously and successfully, no other company can say they have run this many competitions of a number of years and still are going in Australian Source.

Currently partnered with CEVO and backed by some of the biggest names in the IT industry, they are the leaders in Australian online Source competitions, running CEVO Professional, Intermediate, Main and Amateur competitions; they have every single competitive source team in Australia competing for honors.

Not only are the GotGames forums the main Source forums in Australia, their brilliant programmer, the one and only brilliant 12-60 has created some amazing website tools for the use of the public. GotGames Live revolutionized the way we find scrims and pug in Australia, much simpler than having to use IRC which was the former method.

The future for GotGames looks to show an endless amount of possibilities, with GGTV having being announced and hopefully recording soon, they are looking to take another giant leap to better Australian Source once again. The only request I’ll make for GotGames is to have another attempt at running a Nationals, if anyone has the resources to do it successfully, its GotGames!

In summary, we have seen many different companies rise and fall through out Source in Australia, some made a large impact to the game such as Anything Interactive and AUSource, and some weren’t as successful, with that said, NONE have done more, or been more successful than GotGames, a real rock in the ever-changing world that is Australian Source. Without the likes of GA, GS, OGN, AI, WGT GG, CG and AUSource, we would not be able to look back and think of the many fantastic matches we have seen over the last few years, in fact, without companies like these, there would be no such thing as competitive source in Australia.

Season
Season is a new map to CSS and it is a bit of a tricky map to get a handle on, because the map is so big and spread out, it makes it hard for both teams. It is hard for the Ts to make a good fake, but even harder for CT teams to rotate from site to site. There are so many different entry points on this map that a well thought out T offense can be virtually unstoppable.

Terrorists
On season as a Terrorist there are 5 ways you can get into the sites. You can go through the dungeon and up the stairs to A site, from dungeon you can also open the squeaky door that will get you into A short, alternatively you can work across mid to get to A short. A lot of teams like to work mid with an AWP, if you take mid you virtually control the map because you can go anywhere you want from mid, to A or B. B site is also good to work as there are two entry points, going around the back and getting up to the top ramp, or working the stairs and getting straight into site.
Dungeon to A:
Working dungeon can be hard because if a CT pushes short they can hear the footsteps in the Dungeon and easily call for players to rotate, so unless you rush hard and get into the site before anyone can rotate, you need to try and stay silent, walk up towards the site and use a couple of smokes to block their view, and then push in as one.
A Short:
To get to A short you need to cross mid, be careful because a lot of teams will have an AWP watching this so you don’t want to get picked, DO NOT RUN OUT ONE BY ONE, if you are going to rush short, rush in a group, if the AWP kills one guy bad luck, he will definitely not be able to kill another if you are quick. Once across you can either slow it down, smoke and pick, or just push in and out number them.
B Site:
There are two ways into B site, lower stairs or the upper ramp, if you are going to rush this try not run on the metal floor, it makes a lot of noise and is a dead give away. Once you have pushed up enough, its time to push into the site, USE BOTH ENTRANCES, send a couple guys up top and the rest down the bottom, smoke and flash the site. The reason you want to split the sites is because you need to be able cover each other, first the guys up top will make sure the path is clear, then the guys bellow will clear out the door at the top. Get the guys up top to clear the lower CT entry and also to clean out the site on the left, and then push in. Alternatively you can all rush hard lower and bust into the site simply out numbering the other team.
Mid:
I left mid till last because although you don’t see that many teams focusing on taking mid, if you can successfully take mid you control the map, once you have taken mid you can virtually run in behind the enemy if you want, and from mid you can go to any site very quickly, the CT team will not know where you are going and will definitely be out of their comfort zone. There are a couple different ways to take mid, this is by just out picking the person holding mid. Or you can just rush the guy in mid, you may not kill him, but you will control mid because he will be forced to fall back. Make sure you don’t allow the CT to come and pick you off one by one after you have taken control of mid, use your grenades effectively.
Tip: There is a box just outside of T stairs, a boost here with the AWP and it gives you strong position to pick the CT AWP as you are well covered.

Counter Terrorists
There isn’t much you can do as CT on this map, you send 2 guys to A, one watching the Dungeon stairs and one watching A short. The two in this site can play either defensive or aggressively, there are a few spots to hide in the site so use them wisely. You will generally want your strongest AWP in mid to cover the cross to A short and make sure they don’t take mid, as I said earlier, mid plays a big part in this map. The last two guys will be sent to B site, you will have one watching top and one watching bottom, remember that although there are two entries to the B site, both entries are very good choke points, so use those to your advantage.

Nuke
Nuke is one of the hardest maps to play as a T but very simple as a CT, this is because it is so small and very hard to try and pick players off as a T, if you pick ramps or outside, you still have a daunting task in front of you because it is very quick and easy for the CT team to rotate to a site, which means you will generally have to try and kill at least 3 players before you can plant.

Terrorists
As a T you have limited options as what to do, you can go outside, through squeaky door, through the hut, or ramps. Working squeaky door and hut is extremely hard because they are so small and your body really only just fits through the doors, making it easy for a CT to hold. Picking outside is also hard because its such an open area for a CT AWP to sit that you will most likely be dead before you see the other player. Ramps is also hard to pick because there is very good cover for the CT in ramps.
Outside:
If you are able to control out side, you have taken a very big step in winning the round, start off by attempting to pick the CT AWP if you believe you can, if you are unsuccessful and/or not confident in picking the AWP, use smokes and flashes outside to limit their view, push out and then you can work to either Annex, the back stairs, or by going lower ladder room, taking out side really gives you a good advantage on taking out the round.
Ramps:
A tricky task to take ramps, you will mostly encounter 2 CTs holding ramps, one from very close up, either around the wall on your right, on the light above you, or behind the close boxes, and one from either behind the back boxes or close to the ladder room. The tricky part of taking ramps is how to get in without dying, there are three ways you can work ramps. You can either try and take it slow by getting a pick at ramps, or you can also take it slow without picking, use smokes and flashes to get into ramps without been attacked, this works because its such a small area that its easy to flash the two CTs that are holding ramps. The other way to go ramps is a hard rush, because its so small you will probably get close up with both the CT players before you even get shot at, giving you a the element of surprise and a good chance to take out two CT players early in the round. Once ramps is taken, like outside you have a few good options, you can go to lower site, you can continue to the ladder room and go up to the top site, or you can track back and go through hut and/or squeaky to top.
Hut/Squeaky:
I’ve put these together because they both go directly into top site and should be used simultaneously; send three through one, and two through the other. The problem with the hut and the squeaky door as I said earlier, is that they are very small, so to get out of them you want the CT players holding in top site to be blind, and also there to be smoke covering you, so smoke the entrances, flash through the door and the window (if you want to get tricky learn to flash from the T roof through the sky lights) and push in together, check the site, rafters and forklift, hopefully you will get the CT players while they are blind.
Good Spawn:
I haven’t put the good spawn on the other maps as its not that important, but on Nuke, a good spawn can result in an easy round win, if you get a good spawn you can get out of the hut as the CT team are coming up the ladder, so a good hard push out the hut off a good spawn, look straight up to ladder and kill the CT as they come up. The good spawn can also allow you to rush through squeaky door and down the vents, you can usually get down the vents and plant the bomb before the guys from ramps can rotate, try passing the bomb to the front player and send 1 more down the vents with him, once down the vents the other three can push ramps and kill the rotating CT players from behind.

Counter Terrorists
This map should almost be straight forward for the Counter Terrorist team, more often than not you will have two guys at ramps, one holding close and one holding far back, if you’re confident with your team you can have only one guy at ramps while the other one sits in the snipers nest, once the ramps guy calls he can rotate. You will have 2 guys in top site, one will be watching squeaky door and the other watching the hut, generally you will keep one on the rafters and one on the floor. And your final guy should be your strongest AWP holding outside. There are so many spots to AWP from outside that he can basically move to a different spot every round to keep the T players guessing.
Tip: This is one of the few maps you can spray some walls, try spraying through the hut, the squeaky door or the Annex walls. Also players on rafters be careful because T players can shoot through the wall from T roof to rafters.

Inferno
Inferno is a rather tricky map to get use to as a team, as a T you need some solid team work to get enough rounds to be competitive in the war. It is a CT biased map, however it is easy to win lots of rounds as T if you work the map correct.

Terrorists:
Terrorist have it rather hard on this map because there are 3 main points of entry, and 1 minor entry point. The three main points are banana to A site, Mid, and carpets. The minor point of entry is through the boiler room door.
Banana to A:
More often than not if a team is going to go through banana they will rush it as a full team, the reason for this is because it is very easy to be picked off one by one as there are lots of spots an AWP could stand which makes it hard to kill him. A good solid rush with purpose will make the AWP panic and he will either retreat, or try and fight but won’t be able to kill many of you. Once you get close to the site, a lot of flash bangs over the roof into site and also towards CT is the way to go, keep them blind as you get into the site and then once in cover the areas.
Tip: it is also quite common to have an AWP at the bottom of Banana trying to get a pick as the enemy’s AWP will usually push to the yellow car if there isn’t a rush, leaving him vulnerable.
Carpet:
Carpets is rather easy as there are only 4 spots you need to worry about, 1st be careful to make sure the person holding carpets doesn’t push. Then as you move up the stairs look through the metal door to Boiler room, now is the time you need to be careful, because the carpet holder could be either to your left (in the bedroom) or to your right (down the hall) take a quick pick at the hall and then clear out the bedroom. Once you know carpets is clean move up, you will probably encounter an enemy in the pit now, or slightly to the left of pit on the back stairs, my tip would be to flash the pit as best you can rush hard into the pit not giving them time to shoot you. Once inside the pit you’re in prime position to take out the round, either push out and give your team mate cover or sit in the pit and pick the enemy off one by one.
Mid and Boiler room:
Ok, the reason I say these together is because they go hand in hand, more often than not if you are trying to slowly work mid, you will have someone go into boiler room, either by jumping on the haystack and into the window, or by opening the metal door at carpet. Most teams hold one on each side of mid, usually you will encounter 1 AWP and 1 M4, however it is also common to have 2 M4s there. Decide which way you are going to go, left or right, if you go left, smoke right, if you go right, smoke left. Once you have cover from one side, flash both sides and start moving in the direction you want. You can also generally work this slowly by having a very quick pick at each side before you smoke and flash, just be sure not to get picked off yourself.
Tip: If you have taken control of mid, then you are really in command of the round, you can now go anywhere you want, remember, even though you’re close to B site, you can run through CT spawn and catch the guys from A site rotating and unprepared for an enemy. If you go to your right, be careful of the guy who is holding carpet.

Counter Terrorists:
As a CT biased map, you need to keep a cool head and good concentration, remember the team should be set up to watch the choke points, 2 guys at A site, usually an AWP and an M4, the AWP will most likely have a pick and the M4 will cover the AWP and/or sit in the site waiting for their push. You will have 1 person holding carpets, be sure to change what you do, be aggressive some rounds by holding in the bedroom or pushing down the stairs, a couple rounds hold from the back of the hall way, and don’t be scared to be ultra defensive, let them push up in carpets while you are in the pit and kill them as they come around. Finally you will have 2 people holding mid, you would have one on the truck side of mid who will listen for carpets and if they are boosting to try get into boiler room, and you will have the other guy on the CT Spawn side of mid making sure they do not get through to CT spawn and kill the unprepared players at A site.
Tip: grenades and flashes are extremely useful on this map because you can generally flash and/or damage their whole team without even seeing anyone.

Train
Train is a fairly complicated map, not only is it dark and there are a lot of places to hide, it has a lot of choke points, it’s easy to be dead before you see someone.

Terrorists:
There are 5 points of entry for the terrorists on this map, these are through vines, through the mid connector, through the ladder room, these three will get you to the A site. The other two entry points are lower ramp and top ramp inside which will get you through into B site.
Vines:
Vines is hard to work as a T because there are many ways for it to be held, it can be held very aggressively, very defensively or in between. Aggressive holds of vines would be someone holding from in the actual vines room, on the barrels more often then not. Defensive is holding from way back on the CT spawn stairs. The hold in between these is usually a cross fire, one will be on the left and one will be on the right, with a crossfire set up. The best way to attack vines is by using a flash on either the right or left, and then flash the other way as hard as you can and rush out together.
Mid Connector:
You will want to send an AWP into Mid connector to pick outside, although there are many spots that the CT AWP could be, if you play it smart from Mid Connector you can generally get a pick or two without having to even battle the CT AWP.
Ladder Room:
A very small room which is very hard to get out of if you are not careful, either held close up by an M4, or way back at the bomb train by an AWP, getting down the ladder is tricky, however once in, a couple of well placed smokes and flashes will get you out.
Tip: Rushing ladder room as a team, it is virtual suicide, unless a well planned strat is used.
Lower and Top Ramp:
The reason I say these together is because you will more often than not split up between these two as a full team, a couple of well placed smokes down the lower ramp and up on the top ramp will give you the cover needed from their AWPs, throw lots of flashes deep into the site and check the trains close up, plant the bomb and hide!
Tip for train: I would suggest if you want to rush hard to either rush down the lower ramp with flashes to the back of site, or rush out of mid connector everyone throwing a grenade in to the CT connector. Rushing vines is harder, but use flashes and you should be right.

Counter-Terrorists:
The most common hold for CT on this map is having 2 inside (one watching top ramp, one watching lower ramp), 1 watching ladder room, 1 watching vines and 1 watching mid connector. Remember to use the trains to your advantage and also the dark spots with your dark uniforms!
If you have someone who is able to hold inside all alone, this is fantastic because having 4 players outside will help you a lot more because outside is usually worked a lot more than inside.

The most common map played for CSS is Dust2, this is because it’s a very even map for both teams, there is a lot teams can do on this map as both T and CT.
Terrorists:
There are four main ways terrorists can attack the bombsites, through the dark tunnels to B site, through mid to B site, Through Short A to A site and through Long A to A site.
B through tunnels:
Working B on Dust2 can be very tricky if not done correctly, more often than not as a Terrorist if you want to go to B site you will rush it hard, throwing flashes into the site, and more often than not when your in B site a lot of the time you will be blind, the trick is to know how to flash so that the other team is just as blind as you.
Tip: If you rush into B site, DO NOT STOP, a lot of players when they are blind will stop and try to run back, this will lose you the round every time, the more people in the site, the more targets to aim at, less chance of dying.
Another way to work B is slow, usually with a smoke at the B entry, walking to the smoke and flashing into site, then you will rush in together.
Tip: If you are going to smoke the B entry and do this, try smoke the entry every round so that the opposition won’t know when your actually going to walk up.
Mid to B:
This can be very effective when you know there is a single AWP in mid. My advice is to smoke the B entry and four players walk to lower dark, on a set time you can either flash over the doors and rush out, or just rush out and all go after the AWP, he may take out one of you, but with the AWP he wont be able to take out two or three. Once the AWP is down the guy in upper dark can push into site while the guys in mid also push in killing anyone in the site.
Tip: Only effective if the opponents don’t know that your whole team are in dark; make them think there’s only one or two
Short A:
Very effective way to get into A is through Short A, the only issue into getting into short is the guy in Mid, a couple of well placed smokes in mid will get you into short A, beware that most teams will have at least one guy holding or watching Short A from Close or in the A site, use flashes!
Tip: Don’t send more than 2 guys to short if you want to pick and play, if you send more than two you will most likely all get hurt or killed by nades, only send more than 2 if it’s a hard rush to A site through short.
Long A:
If taken correctly, having Long A can win the map, put a good AWP in the pit and have the others move up, keep one in mid area to make sure you don’t get killed from behind. The guys moving up at Long A should smoke the cross over so the mid CT AWP can’t kill you.
Tip: CT players get to long before you unless you flash effectively over the hut, use smokes and flashes all the way up to A and you will not be stopped.

Counter Terrorists:
On Dust2 the most common hold you will see is 1 – 1 – 1 – 2, this means, 1 inside b, 1 in mid, 1 in short and 2 at long, the reason for this is that b, mid and short are all choke points which its hard to be rushed without getting at least 1 kill, however at long, because of the ease to flash and push it, 2 players are usually send there to counter the constant hard long rushes. There are many other different hold as CT on Dust2, but for most mid tier clans this is the most common and probably the most successful

Ok, so you have a team now who are good and competitive, you have solid strats or you pick and play, how do you take the next step? Well that is rather difficult, to take the step from been a decent team to becoming a top team takes a lot of everything said above. You need commitment, good leadership, patience and to go with that, you need to not only be able to pick and play or have team strats, you need to have a bit of both. Confused? It’s simple, you need to be able to change your frame of mind from one round to the next, you need to know when to pick and play and when to use strats. Use what works best for you, but if it isn’t working have a back up plan, try new things and keep the opposition guessing, this is how to become a top team in source.

Along with all that, you need to practice individual skill and your aim. If you can’t kill someone then taking the step to become a top team is not where you are at yet.
